Reinsurance giant Swiss Re has announced that Mike Mitchell, currently Head of Property Underwriting and Property & Casualty Facultative, Asia, will assume the role of Head of Property and Specialty Reinsurance, replacing Edouard Schmid, effective July 1st, 2017.
The reinsurer announced previously that Edouard Schmid was to replace Mathias Weber as Group Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO), and has now revealed that Mitchell will take up the position as Head of Property and Specialty Reinsurance when Schmid assumes his CUO responsibilities.
Mitchell will also serve as a member of the Reinsurance Executive Committee, announced Swiss Re, and will move to Zurich from Sydney, Australia to undertake his new position.
Mitchell joined the company in 1997 and has 30 years of experience in the global reinsurance industry. He is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute, and previously led client management and underwriting units in Swiss Re Asia, which includes Australia and Singapore.
Before joining Swiss Re he held positions at M&G Re in London and Singapore, with a focus on property/casualty underwriting. The reinsurer also explained that Mitchell spent two years leading Swiss Re’s P&C Structured Solutions unit.
