Miller Insurance Services makes series of appointments

Miller Insurance Services LLP, a London wholesale and specialist insurance and reinsurance broker, has bolstered its partnership with a series of new appointments.

MillerThese include the internal appointments of James Hands, Charles Lane, Phil Wheeler, Martin Henderson and Ben Speers as equity holding Partners, and the appointments of Michael Lee and Louise Gladding to business production and broking roles in Miller’s North American MGA business.

Hands has 18 years’ industry experience and is head of Miller’s Accident & Health department, overseeing the strategic development of the company’s sport and entertainment business.

He joined Miller from Aon in 2015, where he was Managing Director of Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), and has extensive experience in developing and managing insurance programs in this sector.

Lane has 30 years’ experience and joined Miller in 2014. He leads the company’s liability wholesale offering to clients, working with property and casualty (P&C) specialists to expand Miller’s capabilities internationally.

Wheeler leads Miller’s marine liability reinsurance team and brings technical expertise in developing reinsurance solutions for P&I clubs.

He joined Miller in 2012 and was initially responsible for developing its in-house actuarial team, which focuses on developing new risk transfer solutions.

Henderson joined Miller in 2003 and now heads its marine, energy and transportation liability (METL) team, focusing on the production and placement of liability business for a range of energy, marine, construction and transportation clients.

Speers has 20 years’ experience and joined Miller in 2011 as Head of Legal, before becoming Chief Operating Officer in 2016 with responsibility for leading the Management Services unit, which delivers all operational services to the business.

Commenting on this group of appointments, Greg Collins, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Miller said: “I am delighted to announce the appointment of these talented leaders to equity partners as their skills and professionalism are key to our continued success. We place great importance around succession planning at Miller in order to continue delivering to the high standards expected from us.”

Additionally, Lee and Gladding are joining Miller’s North American MGA business in November and December, respectively, and will work alongside Richard Boughton and the wider Miller MGA team.

They have each been in the re/insurance industry for nearly two decades and have experience producing, developing and managing high profile books of business, with Lee having previously worked for Commercial Union, A.J. Gallagher and Corrie Bauckham Batts and Gladding for a number of London brokers.

“Louise and Michael are two excellent additions to our team, with over 30 years’ combined experience in the North American binding contract business. As we grow, we will continue to provide our clients with the superior level of service they expect and deserve.”

Finally, Miller also announced that Julian Taylor, Brian Rivett, Xavier Villers and Andrew Miller are set to retire at the end of 2018 and in early 2019.

Collins continued: “At the end of this year and early next year, a number of senior individuals will be retiring and appointments such as these ensure there will be no impact on the service we offer to our valued clients.
