Newport Specialty Partners, a specialty insurance platform that works with managing general agents (MGAs) and programme administrators, has appointed Mary Sbaschnig as its new Chief Operating Officer and Chief Information Officer.

Sbaschnig will be responsible for leading the company’s operational and technology strategy as it continues to expand its platform and support partner businesses.

Her role will include overseeing technology initiatives, reporting and data capabilities, workflow optimisation, compliance support, and helping partner MGAs scale their operations while maintaining their specialist underwriting expertise.

Dennis DiCapua, Chief Executive Officer of Newport Specialty Partners, commented: “Mary brings exactly the combination of insurance operating experience, technology expertise, and practical MGA knowledge that we want at Newport.”

DiCapua continued: “She understands how underwriting businesses actually operate, how technology can improve decision-making and efficiency, and how to build the infrastructure needed to support disciplined growth. Mary’s leadership will be instrumental in strengthening the capabilities that support our partner companies while preserving the entrepreneurial culture and underwriting discipline that define Newport.”

Sbaschnig said Newport’s model of supporting specialist insurance businesses while allowing them to retain their individual strengths was a key factor in her decision to join the company. “I am excited to join Newport at such an important stage in its development,” she added.

“What makes Newport especially compelling is its approach to partnering with strong specialty insurance businesses and providing the operational support and strategic resources needed to help them grow while maintaining the qualities that differentiate them. I look forward to working with Dennis, the Newport team, and our partner companies as we continue building a platform that is thoughtful, disciplined, and positioned for the long term.”

Sbaschnig has more than three decades of experience across insurance operations, underwriting systems, and technology strategy. Prior to joining the company, she served as Vice President of Solutions Architecture at Vertafore, where she worked with MGA and insurance distribution partners on implementation, operational consulting, and technology solutions aimed at improving underwriting efficiency and operational performance.

Newport added that Sbaschnig has also held senior positions at I-Centric Solutions, Delos Insurance Group, and Clarendon National Insurance Company, with responsibilities spanning operational improvement, technology development, and product strategy.
