North P&I Club, the UK-based marine mutual liability re/insurer, has announced a series of senior underwriting appointments across various lines and regions within its business.
Back in June, the company announced the appointment of Savraj Mehta to Chief Commercial Officer, with Thya Kathiravel taking on Mehta’s previous role as Chief Underwriting Officer for North and Sunderland Marine.
Concurrently, Steve Rebair and Simon Main were both appointed as Deputy Global Directors (Underwriting) to assist Kathiravel, while Brian Davies was named as Director (London) earlier this month following the launch of North’s Fixed Premium P&I product.
Now, North has continued its streak of senior appointments, with Emma Liddell and Mike Hustler set to take up positions as Director (Underwriting) to oversee business interests in the Asia Pacific region, which currently provides 35% of the Club’s entered tonnage.
Lindell joined North in 1994 and spent several years handling P&I claims – including two years in the Hong Kong office and a further year in the Greek office – before joining the underwriting department in the UK.
Going forward, she will continue to be based in Newcastle and will coordinate the management of the Asia Pacific accounts with Hustler, concentrating primarily on relationships with the broker community.
Hustler, meanwhile, will work to establish North’s regional underwriting authority from the Club’s Singapore office.
He will be supported in that capacity by Sumito Dosaka, who has been appointed to the role of Senior Executive (Marketing) at North Japan Branch. Sumito was previously an underwriter at another P&C Club in Japan, where he worked for 23 years.
Next, North revealed that Sanchit Dutta has been appointed as a Director (Underwriting) and will be tasked as lead underwriter with continuing to build the Club’s presence in the Middle East and Indian regions, which represent 10% of North’s entered tonnage.
For the Greek Membership, which currently makes up 20% of the Club, Phil Eccleston has been appointed as Director (Underwriting), based in Newcastle.
He has previous experience in the Greek office, having worked in the claims team back in 2008 before joining underwriting, and will be assisted in his new role by senior-level commercial support from Dutta.
Gordon Robertson will be carrying out the liaison role with Members and brokers in the Greek market, and Eccleston will additionally be supported by Gary Henderson, Dean Costello and Tom McLoughlin.
Finally, North confirmed that Nick Wolfe will be joining its underwriting team. Wolfe has experience working for a major broker based in Singapore, and will be focusing on special projects and helping to build the fixed premium side of North’s business when he joins the Newcastle office next year.
