Obsidian Insurance Group, a leading facilitator and supporter of specialty insurance programs, has appointed Jeff Wittlich as its Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO).
With a background in reinsurance and program insurance, Wittlich brings extensive experience and industry connectivity to his new role.
William Jewett, CEO of Obsidian, expressed his enthusiasm for Wittlich’s addition to the Leadership Team, stating, “Jeff Wittlich is a tremendous addition to our already strong Leadership Team. His extensive program underwriting and portfolio management experience, as well as his connectivity within the industry, are among the many things that will drive his contributions to our continued growth and profitability in the years to come.”
Jewett further emphasised the demand for top talent in the industry, particularly within the program sector. He believes that Wittlich’s underwriting expertise aligns perfectly with Obsidian’s business strategy, which prioritises underwriting and operational excellence.
Wittlich also shared his excitement about joining Obsidian, noting his long-standing support for the company since its formation nearly four years ago.

In his previous role, Wittlich served as the Head of the Regional and National MGA practice at Swiss Re US. He had been with the company since 2001, holding various positions in reinsurance underwriting and business development. Wittlich began his career as an underwriter at CNA.
