Zurich-based catastrophe loss data aggregator PERILS has increased its third loss estimate for European windstorm Friederike, also known as David, by €46 million.

Windstorm Friederike caused significant damage as it swept through the British Isles, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany over January 17 and 18, 2018.

PERILS’ third estimate, based on loss data collected from affected insurers, is €1.675 billion. This compares to its previous estimate in April of €1.629 billion.

Friederike caused widespread travel and business disruption, particularly across Germany and the Netherlands, and was responsible for the deaths of eleven people.

Additionally, the total market loss from Friederike is the highest since winter storm Klaus hit France on January 24 2009.
