Phoenix Group appoints Lloyd’s CIO Eleanor Bucks as Board member

The Phoenix Group Holdings plc, a major UK life and retirement, risk transfer and savings company, has appointed Eleanor Bucks as an independent Non-Executive Director.

The appointment is effective starting 1st December 2023.

Alastair Barbour, Chair of Phoenix Group, commented on the appointment, “We are delighted that Eleanor has agreed to join the Board of Phoenix Group Holdings plc.

“She is an accomplished Actuary and Chief Investment Officer demonstrating strong financial services, insurance and stakeholder management experience. She brings fresh capability and skills together with a deep understanding of both our business and markets and will be a positive resource as Phoenix pursues its long-term strategy.”

Bucks currently serves as the Chief Investment Officer of Lloyd’s of London. In the role, her remit included being responsible for the investment management of c.£14bn in assets globally, and investment oversight and leadership for the c.£95bn of assets within the Lloyd’s market and capital setting for market risk.

Through this, Bucks has gained strong corporate governance experience as a member of the Lloyds Investment Committee, a Council of Lloyd’s sub-committee.

Bucks previously spent 15 years at Legal & General in increasingly senior and varied roles, whilst also developing her governance skillset as a member of the divisional Executive Committee, Investment Committee, Chair of the divisional Sustainability Committee, and Chair of the divisional Direct Investment Committee.

She has added experience in life assurance, which includes investment management, risk management, customer solutions and operations.

Alongside that, she has a deep understanding of sustainable assets and ESG, and the development of alternative retirement products.
