Pioneer establishes Latin America hub, names four new regional SVPs

Pioneer Underwriters has launched its regional hub in Latin America and announced the hiring of four insurance and reinsurance industry professionals as Senior Vice Presidents (SVP), based in Mexico City.

Reinsurance in Latin AmericaComplementary to the firm’s global facultative underwriting operations in London, Pioneer Underwriters has announced the establishment of its Latin America hub as it looks to access local business that’s placed in local markets.

Initially, the new team will focus on property and casualty business, and will be based in Mexico City, reporting to Graeme Rayner, Pioneer’s Group Director of Underwriting.

Formerly the Facultative Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO) for Latin America & the Caribbean at Odyssey Re, Rogelio Diaz, joins Pioneer’s Latin America hub alongside Gabriel Buzo, formerly Head of Financial Lines and Liability across the Latin American region at Odyssey Re.

Paola Benitez, an experienced insurance and reinsurance professional and former Latin America Head of General Casualty and Financial Lines at Reasinter, also joins Pioneer’s new Latin America hub. And the new team is completed with the addition of Salvador Hernandez, formerly Latin American Territorial Leader at Gen Re.

Pioneer’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Darren Doherty, commented; “Our expansion into Latin America is another landmark in the development of the business. The team will add to our existing capabilities in the region and bring Pioneer’s capabilities closer to clients and local brokers. The Latin American team’s credentials speak for themselves and I’m delighted to welcome them to Pioneer.”
