QIC Global promotes Alexander Craggs to CEO at Antares

QIC Global, the international specialty re/insurance arm of Qatar Insurance Group, has named Alexander Craggs as acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Jim Lye as Active Underwriter, respectively, at Antares Syndicate 1274, effective July 7th, 2020.

In their new roles, Craggs will report to Michael van der Straaten, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at QIC Global and Lye will report to Craggs. Both appointments remain subject to regulatory approval.

Craggs brings more than 25 years of industry experience to the role and had served as active underwriter of the syndicate since May 2019. He first joined the company in 2010 as class underwriter for property treaty and agriculture and also, between 2017 and 2019, served as head of reinsurance at the syndicate.

Previously, Lye served as head of terrorism and energy at Antares. He joined the company in 2012 as an energy underwriter, having been an underwriting and claims manager at Infrassure from Feb 2010.

Additionally, QIC Global has announced the formation of a QIC Global CUO office, comprised of Craggs, Pantelis Koulovasilopoulos, CEO of QIC Europe Ltd., Luke Roden, CUO at Qatar Re, and Lye, to coordinate Antares and Qatar Re underwriting plans.

van der Straaten commented: “QIC Global’s new executive committee is ready to take advantage of the improving market environment. Following a series of measures taken to remediate our book, we are now well positioned to strategically and profitably expand the business.
