Critical role for re/insurers in net zero transition & enabling climate tech: PwC

3rd September 2022 - Author: Steve Evans

With the back-in-person Monte Carlo Rendez-vous reinsurance industry event happening in just a week’s time, PwC is highlighting the important role of re/insurers and underwriters in supporting the transition to net zero, as well as in enabling climate tech innovation.

pwc-monaco-hermitagePwC is hosting a special session (details below) at the Reinsurance Rendez-Vous 2022 on the critical role of the insurance and reinsurance industry in enabling the transition to net zero.

The company has developed an interactive, digital experience so that organisations can explore the risks and opportunities a transition to a low carbon economy could present to their underwriting teams.

Jim Bichard, Global Insurance Leader, PwC UK, explained, “Given the importance of decarbonisation and ESG as a board-level topic for so many organisations, and the significant interest from our re/insurance clients on how the transition to net zero will impact underwriting, we are pleased to be able to debut this experience in Monte Carlo.

“Insurance growth strategies cannot ignore how business is responding to government, market and consumer pressures around climate.

“We believe PwC’s unique insight across global industries can help insurance executives and underwriters gain a deeper understanding of the changes to their clients’ business.”

Domenico del Re, Director, Sustainability, PwC UK, further explained that, “Re/insurance underwriters have a critical role to play in the transition to net zero, for example as enablers of climate technology needed to manage that transition efficiently.

“As climate change challenges grow ever more urgent, it is climate tech innovations that are helping to reduce emissions and accelerate decarbonisation.

“Insurers can play an important role in enabling these technologies, and need also to be aware of the wider changes that these key sectors are undergoing.”

PwC is holding the session in Monte Carlo for chief executives, CUOs, CROs and their teams, as well as other interested executives in the sector.

PwC global sector leaders will speak on net zero and attendees will also receive the results from an interactive experience exploring how the sector trends can impact their business.

Re/insurers can come away from the session with personalised insights into trends in real estate, automotive, energy and technology sectors and how they could impact the growth and profitability of their lines of business, as well as ideas about how to participate in the economy’s net zero climate transition.

“Underwriting the transition to Net Zero” takes place on Monday, 12 September between 10am-10:45am OR 1:30pm-2:15pm at the Hotel Hermitage in Monte Carlo.
