Rod O’Malley joins StarStone as new head of cargo from XL Catlin

Global specialty insurer StarStone has today announced the appointment of Rod O’Malley, who joins from XL Catlin, as head of cargo in London.

Marine shipping reinsuranceAs head of cargo he will report to global head of marine Simon Schnorr, who welcomed O’Malley to the team; “Rod joins us to build on StarStone’s strong existing cargo foundations in London.

“His considerable experience and market standing will help further fortify StarStone’s cargo offering and ensure our continued success in developing new opportunities, both in London and globally.”

Prior to his appointment, he served as head of the UK cargo team and senior class underwriter for XL Catlin.

O’Malley boasts over 35 years’ experience in marine cargo underwriting having worked extensively in both the Lloyd’s and company markets in London.

He is set to replace current London cargo underwriter Henry Wood who has been promoted to senior underwriter and will work closely with O’Malley to expand StarStone’s cargo book.
