Santam Syndicate 1918, part of Santam Group, Africa’s non-life insurer, has announced that Sam Geddes will assume the responsibilities of Active Underwriter.

Geddes will take on the additional role alongside his existing responsibilities as Chief Executive Officer. He will report to Gareth Beaver, CEO of Santam Specialist Solutions. According to Santam Syndicate 1918, the appointment comes as the Syndicate continues to develop its underwriting platform and expand its presence in the Lloyd’s market.

Santam Syndicate 1918 has also announced the promotion of Sam Tierney and Briyangha (Brie) Suthagaran from Assistant Underwriters to Underwriters within its Property D&F team. Both will report to Nigel Tatlock, Head of Property.

The company said the promotions recognise Tierney and Suthagaran’s contributions to the Syndicate’s Property D&F team, as well as the development of their underwriting expertise.

Geddes added: “The progress we have made over the past year has been exceptional. We have built a highly capable team, strengthened our underwriting proposition, and established the platform needed to support sustainable growth. I am pleased to take on the additional responsibilities of Active Underwriter and look forward to leading the next stage of the Syndicate’s development as we continue to deliver value to our brokers, clients and stakeholders.”

“I am also delighted to recognise Sam and Brie’s achievements with their promotions to Underwriter, Property D&F. Both have demonstrated true commitment to developing their underwriting expertise and making a meaningful contribution to the team. Their progression reflects our commitment to investing in our people and developing the next generation of underwriting talent within Santam.”
