Sompo appoints Thomas Leone as new Chief Investment Officer

Sompo, a global provider of commercial and consumer property, casualty, and specialty re/insurance, has announced the appointment of Thomas Leone as Chief Investment Officer.

SompoIn his new role, Leone will directly report to Nicolas Burnet, Sompo’s Chief Financial Officer, and will be based in the insurer’s Purchase, NY office.

Leone will succeed Mark Silverstein on 1 October 2024, who is retiring after an 18-year tenure at Sompo.

Burnet expresses enthusiasm for Leone’s appointment, stating, “I am excited to welcome Tom to Sompo. The combination of his technical expertise, strategic vision and strong leadership skills makes him the perfect fit for this role. I am confident Tom will further advance our investment strategy to ensure the continued financial success of our organisation.”

Burnet continues, “Mark is leaving behind an exceptional legacy and I would like to thank him for his outstanding leadership and many contributions that built a market-leading investments function for Sompo. I am very pleased that his journey with our organisation does not end here. Instead, it transitions into a new phase where Mark has agreed to lead Sompo’s philanthropic efforts.”

Leone joins Sompo from PartnerRe, where he worked for 11 years, most recently serving as Chief Investment Officer. Prior to that, he held various leadership positions at Genworth Financial for six years and Fidelity Investments for five years.
