Sompo, a global provider of commercial and consumer property, casualty, and specialty re/insurance, has announced the appointment of Thierry Grieder as SVP, Head of Casualty Treaty Reinsurance for Continental Europe, MEA and LATAM.
Grieder brings over a decade of market experience to his new position, having most recently served as SSenior Vice President (SVP) Senior Underwriter Casualty Reinsurance.
He initially joined Sompo in 2022 as Vice President, Casualty Treaty Underwriter.
Prior to his tenure at Sompo, Grieder spent seven years at Swiss Re, having joined the company as a Graduate Strategy Analyst and being appointed Corporate Strategy Analyst a year and a half later. Both positions were based in Zurich, Switzerland.
In 2017, based in Paris, he became a Treaty Underwriter at Swiss Re, and after close to two years he was promoted to Senior Treaty Underwriter, a position he held for three years.
Grieder joins Bart Van Gysegem and Elliot Paul as some of Sompo’s most recent international appointments.
In early June, Van Gysegem was appointed Country Manager, Insurance for Belgium and the Netherlands, based in Brussels. This move is part of Sompo’s long-term development plan in both countries, after it was granted licences by the regulatory authorities to write primary insurance locally last year.
Paul was appointed as Head of Marine Cargo, UK back in May. Based in London, the executive joined the team as the company is building a versatile group of experts to improve their service to clients and brokers.
