Sompo Intl. makes two hires for its UK Commercial P&C Insurance business

Sompo International, a global provider of commercial and consumer property and casualty re/insurance, has made two appointments for its UK Commercial P&C Insurance business unit.

sompo-international-logoJon Pope has been named Head of Middle Market Insurance, London region, and Toby Harris becomes Head of Technology, Middle Market Insurance.

Both appointees will report into Joe Brown, Middle Market & Small Business Underwriting Leader, UK.

Pope joins the firm with more than 16 years of industry experience. He joins the company from RSA, where he was most recently Lead Casualty Trading Underwriter in the company’s London office.

Prior to this, he held senior underwriting roles at both Hiscox and RSA.

At the same time, Harris joins Sompo International from Travelers, bringing more than three decades of expertise towards his new role.

In his most recent role at Travelers, he served as Technology Practice Leader for Europe.

In addition, Harris has also previously held senior underwriting positions across the Midlands and London with major firms such as, Chubb, Ace European Group, and AIG.

Addressing the new appointments, Brown said: “As Sompo International continues advancing its global footprint and capabilities in the Commercial P&C (re)insurance market, we are extending our insurance offerings to mid-sized business across the UK.

“I am pleased to welcome Jon and Toby to the Middle Market team, and I look forward to working with them as we deepen relationships with our broker partners and clients to provide solutions that align with their needs.”

Earlier this month, the British Insurance Brokers’ Association (BIBA) announced its latest partnership with Sompo International.

Further, Sompo International recently appointed Marilyn Faugas as Country Manager, Insurance for France.
