As AI creates new opportunities across the insurance value chain, the Singapore Reinsurers’ Association (SRA) has launched its Reinsurers’ Artificial Intelligence Handbook at the 22nd Singapore International Reinsurance Conference (SIRC), providing practical guidance for underwriting, claims, and risk professionals.
The SRA said a working group of members from its Technical and Legal & Compliance Subcommittees developed the Handbook.
The initiative is intended to complement existing AI governance frameworks, including the MindForge AI Risk Management Toolkit, by addressing risks and considerations specific to the reinsurance sector.
The Handbook reportedly establishes a five-stage assessment cycle for evaluating AI risks across five key areas: data, model, and decision reliability; third-party dependencies; underwriting; claims; and portfolio concentration.
Mr Glen Riddell, Chair of SRA, commented, “AI is creating new opportunities across the insurance value chain, while also introducing new considerations for the risks insurers and reinsurers assume.
“Reinsurers need to understand how AI use may affect risk selection, claims outcomes and portfolio performance, and what that means for the risks they reinsure.
“This Handbook provides practical, principles-based guidance to help reinsurers assess these considerations and incorporate them into reinsurance decision-making.”
Launched in 1991 and organised by the SRA, SIRC has become a key fixture on the global reinsurance calendar.
It brings together leading reinsurers, insurers and brokers to assess market conditions, discuss prospects for the upcoming renewal season and explore new business opportunities.
The launch of the Handbook comes amid record participation at SIRC 2026, which attracted more than 4,300 delegates from 85 countries and territories, marking the largest international turnout in the conference’s history.
