The commercial insurance arm of reinsurance giant Swiss Re has announced that Chubb’s Marc Scheidegger is set to join the firm as its new Chief Claims Officer.
Effective June 1st, 2020 Scheidegger will relocate from Paris to Zurich to join Swiss Re Corporate Solutions (Swiss Re CorSo), reporting to the company’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Andreas Berger.
As Chief Claims Officer of Swiss Re CorSo, he will lead an experienced team of claims professionals in delivering customer-focused claims service and upholding the Corporate Solutions Claims Commitment.
In his new role, Scheidegger takes on responsibility for ensuring claims handling and reserving processes are met, and he will also be expected to maintain open dialogue with underwriting, actuarial, finance, and other functions. Swiss Re CorSo adds that he will also have a focus on people in order to see that the division is both attracting and developing industry talent.
Most recently, Scheidegger served as the Claims Director for Continental Europe at a Chubb and has previously worked for Zurich, bringing more than 24 years of insurance experience to the role.
“I’m very excited that Marc will join our team and help us continue to provide efficient, best-in-class claims service that gives customers peace of mind. His customer-centricity aligns with our aspiration to improve the customer experience and his expertise will support our journey to advance corporate insurance together,” said Berger.
Scheidegger takes over as Chief Claims Officer of Swiss Re CorSo from James George, who has decided to seek opportunities outside of Swiss Re. George will step down from his position on April 1st, 2020 after 25 years with the company and its legacy firms.
Between April 1st and June 1st, Berger will take on the role, subject to regulatory approvals. Swiss Re CorSo adds that George will remain with the firm through July 1st, 2020 to ensure a seamless transition.
“I’d like to thank Jim for his hard work and passion over his long tenure. Under his leadership, Claims continued its move to a market-facing function that clearly differentiated our offering.
“Jim’s notable contributions, such as our industry-leading Claims Commitment, give Marc and the rest of the Claims organisation a solid foundation to build upon as we transform CorSo into a business that sets new standards and leads the industry forward,” said Berger.
Scheidegger’s appointment, which also sees him join the Swiss Re Corporate Solutions Executive Committee, remains subject to approval by relevant authorities.
