Swiss Re Corporate Solutions (Swiss Re CorSo), the commercial insurance arm of reinsurance giant Swiss Re, has revealed that Matthias Grass is to succeed Martin Mueller as Chief Financial Officer (CFO), effective July 1st, 2020.
In his new role, Grass takes responsibility for the oversight of Swiss Re CorSo’s Finance function, ensuring the operation reaches its financial targets, and implementing the division’s business strategy. He will have oversight of a team of around 200 finance professionals in offices around the world.
His appointment remains subject to regulatory approvals by relevant authorities, and sees Grass join the Swiss Re CorSo Executive Committee. To assume his new role, he will relocate to Zurich from Bratislava.
Grass takes over from Mueller, who has been appointed Head Global Finance Transformation for the Swiss Re Group. Mueller served as CFO of Swiss Re CorSo since November 2017.
“I’d like to thank Martin for his many contributions to Corporate Solutions, particularly his leadership during our strategic review. By overseeing the successful implementation of our management actions, Martin has helped us make significant progress in our return to profitability, which I am confident Matthias will help Corporate Solutions achieve in 2021, as committed,” said Andres Berger, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Swiss Re CorSo.
Grass joined Swiss Re in 2013 and since then, has served as CFO of Group Operations and CFO for Swiss Re’s service companies. During these years, Swiss Re says that he significantly improved cost management, operations and steering across the Swiss Re Group. The reinsurer states that he also played an important role in implementing the global operations strategy and expanding the firm’s presence in Bratislava.
Prior to Swiss Re, Grass spent 8 years with McKinsey & Company, where he held a number of positions of increasing seniority.
“Matthias has shown he is an effective leader who has achieved ambitious targets, inspired his people, and helped grow our very successful Bratislava operation.
“I am pleased he will join Corporate Solutions during this transformative time in our development. Matthias will be a driving force in refining our strategy as we advance corporate insurance for the benefit of our customers,” said Berger.
