Swiss Re names Steinmann Head Northern, Central & Eastern Europe

Reinsurer Swiss Re has appointed former Head of Casualty Underwriting EMEA, Thorsten Steinmann, as the new Head Northern, Central & Eastern Europe.

In his new role, Steinmann will be responsible for Swiss Re’s P&C reinsurance operations in a region extending from the DACH countries to the Nordics, Baltics, the Netherlands and Eastern Europe.

According to the announcement, he will also take over as General Representative of Swiss Re for the German Branch on 1 April 2023.

Commenting on his appointment, Steinmann said: “Swiss Re is your partner for progress. I’m delighted to be able to build on this legacy to help clients leverage opportunities beyond reinsurance.”

Steinmann has been with Swiss Re for over 16 years, having joined the firm in 2012 as a Key Account Manager, Director. Since then he has held several positions with his most recent being as Head of Casualty Underwriting EMEA, Managing Director.

Prior to Swiss Re, he spent almost seven years with GE Insurance solutions as an Underwriting Manager. Before that, he also spent some time at Sparkassenversicherung Stuttgart and Mannheimer Versicherungen AG.

Swiss Re has also recently appointed Harry Thomson as Head of Casualty Treaty Underwriting for the Northwest Europe region.

He has worked with the reinsurer since 2017, during which time he has held a position as Senior Casualty Treaty Underwriter and Vice President, based in London.
