Tysers bolsters Asia and Australasia marine, aviation team

Independent Lloyd’s broker Tysers has hired a series of Far East reinsurance specialists in an effort to bolster its marine and aviation team in the region.

TysersJane Smart joins from Swiss Re Asia to focus on innovative solutions and Cameron Nicholas will join the firm in January 2021 from Aon Re to develop the marine treaty business.

Both hires are London-based and will work within the reinsurance team as Associate Directors.

Smart has over 20 years’ experience in the reinsurance sector and has worked as a broker and reinsurer in multiple international territories.

It’s hoped her market insight and specialist product knowledge will enhance Tysers’ bespoke client solutions with a focus on alternative risk transfer, retrospective & prospective cover and parametric products.

As a senior client manager for Swiss Re Asia in Singapore, she covered Southeast Asia, India and Dragons.

Tom Wilson, Managing Director of Tysers Marine and Aviation, commented, “We are delighted that Jane is joining Tysers. Her understanding of the underwriting appetites and requirements of the major reinsurers will be invaluable in producing innovative solutions for our clients that are both effective and realisable.”

Nicholas has a track record of building treaty and facultative reinsurance business in developing and mature markets.

Most recently Head of Production and Marketing at Aon Re, it’s hoped his experience will strengthen Tysers’ ability to provide clients with optimal reinsurance solutions.

“Cameron will be a fantastic addition to our International Reinsurance team and will help us to build further and develop our reinsurance portfolio following the recent integration of the RFIB and Tysers teams,” said Wilson.
