USAA, the US financial services company serving military personnel, veterans and their families through insurance, banking, investment and retirement products, has appointed Andrew J. Pinkes to its Board of Directors, effective 29 May 2026.

The company said Pinkes brings more than three decades of experience across the insurance sector, with expertise in claims management, legal affairs, risk oversight, operational leadership and business transformation.

According to USAA, Pinkes has held a range of senior executive and board-level positions throughout his career within the property and casualty insurance industry. His previous roles include interim Chief Executive Officer of CLARA Analytics and acting Head of Commercial Markets at The Hartford.

He has also served as Executive Vice President at CNA Insurance, XL Group and The Hartford. Earlier in his career, Pinkes was Senior Vice President and General Counsel of the special liability group at Travelers Insurance Company and later became global Chief Executive Officer of the legacy insurance division at Randall & Quilter. USAA noted that he has led a number of transformation and operational improvement initiatives, with a focus on strengthening organisational performance and enhancing customer experiences.

Announcing the appointment, Vice Admiral Jim Zortman, USN (Ret), Chairman of the USAA Board of Directors, said: “Andy is a highly experienced leader who understands both USAA’s mission and the members we serve. As a USAA member for more than 30 years, he and his family have experienced firsthand the trust and commitment that defines this organisation. He brings sound judgment, humility and a strong operational background to the Board. He has led organisations responsible for supporting people during some of the most difficult moments in their lives. Those experiences and values will serve USAA well, and we are pleased to welcome him to the Board.”

Pinkes said: “It is an honour to join USAA’s Board of Directors. USAA has built a strong legacy of serving military members and their families with consistency and care through every stage of life. I have long admired the organisation’s focus on its members and the responsibility that comes with supporting the military community. I look forward to contributing to that mission and helping guide USAA’s continued success in the years ahead.”

USAA said Pinkes currently sits on several corporate and advisory boards within the insurance and technology sectors. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Connecticut College and a law degree from Western New England University School of Law.

The company also highlighted its continued emphasis on military representation across its workforce and leadership. USAA said that more than half of its directors have served in the military, while nearly 25% of employees are veterans or military spouses.

According to the company, this approach helps inform the development of products, services and advocacy initiatives designed to support military communities. USAA added that recent efforts have included government shutdown relief programmes and the return of $3.8 billion in member value through distributions, dividends, bank rebates and rewards.
