The Reinsurance Association of America (RAA) has elected John Welch, Chief Executive North America for AXA XL Reinsurance, as Chair of its Board of Directors.
Hamilton Re CEO Kathleen Reardon was also elected Vice Chair of the Board, while Jed Rhoads, President and Chief Underwriting Officer at Markel Global Reinsurance, was elected Secretary Treasurer.
Welch, who is also Chair of the RAA’s Council of Reinsurers and Brokers, succeeds current RAA Chair Steve Levy, President and CEO of Reinsurance at Munich Reinsurance America.
At AXA XL, Welch is a Managing Director and a member of the company’s Reinsurance Leadership Team.
Reardon, meanwhile, has been at Hamilton Re since 2012, before which she served as Senior Vice President and Chief Underwriting Officer for ACE (now Chubb), Tempest Re Bermuda’s International Property Catastrophe reinsurance business.
She held leadership positions with ACE Financial Solutions International as Assistant Vice President and then Vice President, Underwriting, before joining ACE Tempest Re.
Finally, Rhoads currently leads the treaty and facultative reinsurance business at Markel, with teams focused on property, casualty, specialty, and public entity risk solutions from offices located in the U.S, Bermuda, and the UK.
He joined Markel in 2013, when Markel acquired Alterra Capital Holdings Limited in Bermuda, and has previously held a number of senior positions at companies such as Harbor Point Re, Chubb Re Bermuda, Overseas Partners Limited Bermuda (OPL), and Stockton Re Limited Bermuda.
