9th December 2016 - Author: Luke Gallin

Insurer and reinsurer XL Catlin has announced several leadership changes within its reinsurance operations, including the appointment of Charles Cooper, currently Chief Executive Bermuda Reinsurance, as Chief Executive of XL Catlin’s Reinsurance business group.

Replacing Cooper in Bermuda will be XL Catlin’s current Chief Executive London Reinsurance, Jonathan Gale, subject to Bermuda immigration approval. While current Underwriting Director London Reinsurance, Rob Littlemore, will be promoted to the position of Chief Executive London Reinsurance.

All appointments are effective as of January 1st, 2017, and both Gale and Littlemore will report to Cooper.

Greg Hendrick, Head of XL Catlin’s global reinsurance operations and as of January 1st, 2017, President, Property & Casualty, said, “Our London and Bermuda units together represent over 40% of our Reinsurance operation’s premiums. These are important markets for us. Jon and Rob have the right experience and leadership skills to continue our drive for profitable growth while ensuring that, wherever our clients engage with us around the world, they receive the same consistent high level of service and flexibility of approach.”

Gale joined Catlin in 2002 and assumed his most recent position when XL Catlin formed in May 2015, and has previously worked for R F Bailey Underwriting Agencies Ltd and CNA Reinsurance.

Littlemore became Catlin’s Head of Reinsurance in London in 2008, and took on his most recent position when XL Catlin was formed, and was also appointed to the Lloyd’s Market Association (LMA) Board to represent Non-Marine Underwriting between 2012 and 2015.

Commenting on the leadership changes, Cooper said, “These two appointments from within our organization highlight the depth of talent we have throughout the globe in our Reinsurance team, which allows us to match talent with opportunity and to benefit from the experience of these two leaders in key markets.”
