Aon bolsters Offshore Wind team

8th March 2021 - Author: Luke Gallin

Insurance and reinsurance brokerage Aon has added both Ray Spreadbury and Sarah Burston to the Offshore Wind team within its Global Broking Centre (GBC), based in London.

Aon logoSpreadbury joins the team as Executive Director and Burston as Director, both reporting into the Power team, led by James MacNeal. Spreadbury joins from Marsh where he most recently served as Global Head – Renewable Energy.

He worked at global broker Marsh for 20 years, after starting his career at Sedgwick Insurance Brokers. Spreadbury takes on his new role with immediate effect.

Burston is scheduled to join Aon in mid-April and is actually returning to the broker after nearly three years in the public sector, having served as a risk manager in local government. Previously, she held the position of Enterprise Risk Management Senior Consultant in Aon Global Risk Consulting.

The broker notes that the appointments of Spreadbury and Burston comes after a series of senior leadership hires with Aon’s Global Renewable network. This includes the appointment of Carol Stark as the U.S. Renewable Energy Leader and the addition of Willem Schrijver in Aon Netherlands as Industry Director, Energy. Additionally, Guido Benz will be joining Aon from Swiss Re in May as Global Renewables Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Aon also explains how these appointments align with the development of its Energy Transition Group, a partnership between Power and Energy, led by Euan Nicolson, the Global Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Aon’s Energy specialty. The company says that this integrated group combines its wider industry capabilities and works closely with its Global Renewables network, developing sustainable risk solutions for clients involved in energy transition.

MacNeal, Managing Director of GBC Construction and Power at Aon, commented: “The renewables industry is a key focus for us, with our offering underpinned by market-leading technical and specialty capabilities. These include risk engineering, contract review, broking and claims advocacy and alternative risk finance solutions, all of which help clients navigate and outperform in the face of managing risk and complexity.

“As evidenced by recent appointments, we are continuing to build a resilient and talented team that can deliver the full depth of Aon’s capabilities to our clients. I am very pleased to welcome Ray and Sarah to the team and am confident their breadth and wealth of expertise will prove invaluable as we continue to strengthen our renewable energy proposition globally.”
