Aon has named Edward Smerdon as Head of Legal and Technical for the Financial and Professional Services division of its London-based Global Broking Centre (GBC).
Smerdon is a specialist in complex coverage, with an emphasis on financial lines insurance including directors & officers, financial institutions, and professional and employment practice liabilities.
Commenting on Smerdon’s appointment, Tracy-Lee Kus, Head of Financial and Professional Services within the GBC said; “Ed’s appointment reflects our ongoing investment in high-quality professionals whose technical capabilities and insights are enabling us to deliver differentiated capabilities to our global clients. We are excited to have him on board.”
Smerdon was previously a partner at Reynolds Porter Chamberlain LLP and recently acted as managing partner of Sedgwick Detert Moran & Arnold LLP in London.
Smerdon said; “After 27 years in private legal practice, with a focus on insurance, I am delighted to make the transition to a dynamic and forward-thinking player like Aon. I look forward to the challenges of the market.”
He brings experience in complex claim negotiations and has led product development for many industry verticals and is a regular on industry panels, addressing key issues facing the sector.
