The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of global insurer and reinsurer, AXA, Thomas Buberl has been elected by information technology firm IBM to join its Board of Directors, effective April 28th, 2020.
Buberl was appointed CEO of AXA in 2016, and continues to lead the Paris, France-based re/insurer through its digital transformation. This includes accelerating business innovation and utilising data to meet the rapidly evolving needs of clients in an increasingly digitalised world.
Prior to AXA, Buberl served as the CEO for Switzerland at Zurich Financial Services and also served as a manager at the Boston Consulting Group in the banking and insurance segment.
A member of AXA’s executive committee since 2012 and current member of the AXA Board of Directors, Buberl is one of the founding members of the Climate Finance Leadership Initiative.
IBM’s Chairman, President and CEO, Ginni Rometty, commented: “Thomas Buberl is an acknowledged leader in digital transformation. His international perspective and experience in leading a multinational insurance company into the digital era will make him a valuable addition to the IBM board.”
