Berkshire (BHSI) enters Australian surety market

Berkshire Hathaway Speciality Insurance (BHSI), a division of Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway, has announced its entry into the Australian surety market, and has appointed Jonathan Griffiths as Head of Surety, Australia.

BHSICurrently, BHSI provides surety products in the U.S., Canada, UK & Europe, and Asia. The new offering in Australia will see BHSI provide contract surety solutions for large and mid-sized contractors throughout Australia.

Mark Lingafelter, President, Australasia, BHSI, commented: “We are pleased to expand our surety footprint and our team into Australia. With his extensive experience, Jonathan is exceptionally qualified to bring to market surety solutions with BHSI’s agility, underwriting expertise and financial strength.”

Griffiths joins the firm with more than ten years of surety underwriting experience at Liberty Specialty Markets, a division of Liberty Mutual, where he most recently served as Head of Surety, Asia-Pacific. Prior to this, he held numerous increasingly senior roles underwriting surety for Liberty in Australia, as well as North America, the UK & Europe.

Since 2015, Griffiths has served as Vice President of the Australian Surety Association. In his new role, he will be based in BHSI’s Sydney office.
