Brown & Brown has announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, The Advocator Group, has acquired Professional Disability Associates, LLC (PDA), a disability services company and provider of specialty claims management services.

Brown & Brown LogoPDA has annual revenues of approximately US $15 million, and its services include medical file review, vocational services, and claim consulting for major disability insurers, reinsurers, and self-insured employers.

The deal was announced by J. Scot Penny, Chief Acquisitions Officer at Brown & Brown, alongside Al Helmond, Kevin Riley and Don Abbot, principals of PDA.

Following the acquisition, the company will retain the PDA brand and continue to operate from its offices in Portland, Maine under the leadership of Helmond and Riley.

PDA leadership will report to Julie Turpin, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of The Advocator Group, who commented: “Like The Advocator Group, Al, Kevin and the PDA team have built a strong presence founded in expertise, sharing business insights and close relationships with clients.

“This partnership will allow both organizations to deliver service that drives deep and sustained value into carrier, customer and client relationships.”

Helmond added: “We have a great level of respect for The Advocator Group.  With the resources that The Advocator Group can make available to us, the PDA team will be able to further enhance the services we provide to our clients.  We could not be more excited about this new partnership.”

The Advocator Group is a nationwide advocacy organisation dedicated to helping individuals apply for Social Security Disability Insurance, as well as assisting Medicare beneficiaries in identifying the most fitting coverage for their needs.
