Munich Re has announced the appointment of Linus Phoon from Canopius as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Singapore & Southeast Asia, effective May 2nd, 2019.
Phoon joins the reinsurance giant from Canopius, where he held the position as CEO Reinsurance Asia, since 2008.
In his new role he will be based in Singapore, and will report to Roland Eckl, CEO, Asia Pacific – Japan, India, Korea and Southeast Asia.
He will be responsible for overseeing the reinsurer’s operations in Singapore and the Southeast Asia region, leading the firm’s reinsurance businesses across the regions.
Prior to his time with Canopius, Phoon held various positions with General and Cologne Re, St Paul Re, and also Converium.
Eckl commented on the appointment: “We are pleased to welcome Linus to this new leadership role. His deep reinsurance expertise and experience of managing operations and client relationships across the Asia region are important assets that will help us grow our business in Southeast Asia, and continue to partner with our clients across the industry.”
