CFC, a specialist insurance provider centred on emerging risks and recognised as a market leader in cyber insurance, has appointed industry veteran John Howard as Chair, subject to regulatory approval.

CFC logoHoward has over three decades of industry experience, including a solid track record in the US specialty, CFC’s biggest distribution market and a priority for future growth. In his new role, he will support CFC’s growth strategy in the US market.

He has previously served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Truist Insurance Holdings, which includes businesses like AmRisc, CRC, Crump, McGriff, and Starwind.

Additionally, Howard currently serves as Independent Non-Executive Director of Everest Group, Chairman of Compre Group, and Chairman of The Council of Insurance Agents and Brokers.

His appointment follows CFC’s investment in its onshore leadership team earlier this year, and the appointment of Justin Camara as CEO, CFC USA, in January.

Richard Ward, who has served as Chair since 2022, will continue to serve on CFC’s board as Senior Independent Non-Executive Director.

Howard commented, “CFC is a unique business and one of the most exciting growth stories in insurance, having established itself as a global leader in specialty insurance for SMEs. As the risk landscape becomes ever more complex, demand for CFC’s products is growing significantly, and its proprietary technology and culture of continuous improvement make it well placed to meet this opportunity.”

Ward said, “I am immensely proud of what we have achieved together during my time as Chair. This is a strong, resilient business with a clear sense of purpose, and I know it will continue to thrive under John’s leadership. As I step into the role of Senior Independent Non-Executive Director, I look forward to supporting the Board and ensuring a smooth and confident transition.”

Howard added, “I would like to take this opportunity to thank Richard, who has provided the business with outstanding leadership, support and constructive challenge throughout his tenure as Chair. I look forward to working with Richard, Louise and the management team as CFC continues its strong trajectory as a fast-growing, capital-light, and highly innovative insurance provider.”

Louise O’Shea, Group CEO, CFC, said, “Under Richard’s stewardship, CFC has been future-proofed, ready to further accelerate growth in the years to come. We are incredibly grateful for his unwavering commitment to CFC and leadership over the years. John’s wealth of experience and leadership in US specialty will be an asset to us as we enter this next phase of global growth. We are delighted to welcome him to the Board.”
