21st July 2022 - Author: Steve Evans

Specialty insurance and reinsurance company Convex has launched a new managing general underwriter (MGU) focused on the insurance market in the United States.

convex-logoConvex US has been launched as an MGU that will have a focus on excess and surplus (E&S) lines business.

The MGU, Convex US, will source primary E&S insurance in the United States on behalf of the company’s underwriting entity Convex Insurance UK Limited.

The MGU’s team in the US will work closely with Convex’s London underwriting team, we understand, with a mission to deliver US E&S business that is not generally accessible through an operation in the London market.

The first product offered by Convex US will be Miscellaneous Professional Liability (MPL) and the MGU plans to introduce a broader range of products in time.

Convex North America Insurance Services LLC, to give the MGU Convex US its full name, is dedicated to providing specialty insurance products and expertise to clients in the US wholesale market, working with appointed and licensed excess & surplus lines brokers.

Convex US will operate out of a Princeton, New Jersey office and counts Dan Kumpf, Convex’s North America CEO as the CEO of the MGU, while Bob Eels is COO and Lauren Pollock is Head of Strategy.

Tom Bongi, who joined the company this month from his most recent role at Argo is Head of Professional and leads the professional liability product roll-out for Convex’s US MGU.

The company has made another hire from Argo as well, in Spencer Poole who joins as Vice President, Miscellaneous Professional Liability.

As Convex US develops its business, the MGU acting for Convex Insurance UK Ltd. will seek to expand the group’s underwriting of specialty insurance in the US commercial property and casualty market.
