Descartes Underwriting, an insurtech company specialising in corporate insurance solutions to address climate and emerging risks, has opened its office in Frankfurt to drive collaboration with DACH based brokers and clients.
With this launch, Descartes seeks to expand its parametric offering to markets throughout Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
Tanguy Touffut, Descartes’ CEO & Co-founder commented: “Following our Series B in January, and our market launches in Latin America and Iberia last month, as well as the UK & Ireland late last year – expanding Descartes’ regional footprint into the DACH region is another huge milestone for us.

To lead this growth, Mario Tucholke joins Descartes as Commercial Director DACH. Based in the Rhein-Main area, he will oversee expanding operations and Descartes’ parametric offering to corporates and public entities in climate-exposed markets throughout the region.
Tucholke commented: “Beyond sustained global demand for capacity, the societal and business impacts of climate change call for the insurance industry to adjust course, offering new forms of coverage that mitigate global warming and support adaptive and recovery efforts.

He brings over 20 years of regional insurance industry experience. Most recently, he worked at Gothaer as Head of P&C Sales and Business Development. Prior to that, he served as a Managing Director, COO, CPO at SÜDVERS, as well as COO Baden-Badener Versicherung AG at Zurich Insurance Group.
Tucholke began his career at Gerling Konzern, and has since established and maintained a close connection to corporates and brokers throughout the region.
