28th June 2017 - Author: Staff Writer

International legal business DWF LLP has appointed Antony Woodhouse, joining from Gowling WLG with a specialisation in international and cross-border disputes, to partner of its City insurance team.

Anthony Woodhouse, DWFWoodhouse boasts extensive experience as an advisor for re/insurers, Lloyd’s syndicates and intermediaries in litigation, mediations and arbitration as well as Bermuda Form matters.

His practice spans energy risks, property and business interruption, general and professional liability, subrogation issues, D&O, E&O and financial lines coverage.

He has also handled large-scale reinsurance disputes following natural disasters, including Hurricanes Katrina and Rita and major energy plant explosions.

Antony Marsh, DWF Head of Professional Indemnity and Commercial Insurance, said: “As traditional domestic insurance work is becoming increasingly commoditised, it’s important that we continue to develop our practice to offer a complete commercial service alongside high-value international work.

“Antony’s substantial Bermuda Form work is highly sought after in the London insurance market and his extensive experience across banking dispute work, energy and professional lines complements DWF’s existing City offering.”

Woodhouse, who has often advised on high-value and high-profile cases, including assisting several European banks in handling their exposure to the Lehman-backed Dante programme through settling Commercial Court proceedings, commented;  “DWF has one of the largest insurance practices in the country and a sound international platform.

“The firm provides me a solid platform to grow my banking and advisory work, but also to consolidate and augment my Bermuda practice, enabling the firm to deliver stronger international work as DWF continues its expansion into new jurisdictions.”

DWF expanded its international insurance offering with the acquisition of global claims business Triton Global in January 2017.
