Insurance and reinsurance broker Gallagher has appointed Julian Raven to be its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the energy practice.
The promotion is one that the firm says is ‘key’ to its Specialty leadership team.
Raven joined Gallagher 14 years ago when the firm first established its London-based energy practice and has been deputy managing partner for the last four years. Prior to joining Gallagher, he worked at Aon, specialising in energy broking.
He will report to Jonathan Turner, CEO of specialty and wholesale at Gallagher. Raven will be replacing Jonathan Smith, who has led Gallagher’s energy practice since 2018. He is now retiring from the industry.
Turner said: “I am delighted that Julian will become CEO of our energy practice and join my leadership team. Julian’s strong leadership skills, commercial acumen, and excellent reputation within the insurance industry makes him well-placed to lead the practice.”
He added: “Ensuring that we nurture and promote the talent within our business is a vital part of our long-term growth strategy, and it is testament to the quality of talent available within Gallagher that we have been able to make this leadership appointment from within our existing team.”
This appointment comes a few weeks after Gallagher announced that it had acquired specialist crisis and risk management consultancy AnotherDay. That acquisition was announced as seeing the team become part of the same division headed by Turner.
The division has also recently appointed Huw Turner as a partner in its renewable energy team. Back then, it said that the renewables team was part of Gallagher Speciality’s global energy, power and renewables practice which handles upstream, downstream, power and renewable energy risks for firms internationally and employs over 65 risk professionals.
