Hedge fund backed specialist property and casualty reinsurer Greenlight Re today announced Michael Belfatti’s appointment to the newly created position of Chief Operating Officer (COO), effective from September 1.
As COO, Belfatti will oversee the firm’s pricing, actuarial and risk management functions, and spearheading data collection, analytics and technology efforts across the Company as well as contribute to setting the firm’s overall strategy.
He will report directly to Simon Burton, Chief Executive Officer of Greenlight Re, who welcomed Belfatti to his new role; “We are delighted to have Mike join the Greenlight Re team.”
“I have followed Mike’s career closely over the past 15 years and he is one of the most capable people I know.
“Mike’s extensive experience overseeing reinsurance pricing and risk management, and his deep knowledge of data analytics innovation, make him an ideal fit for our long-term goals.”
Prior to joining the Company, Belfatti was founder and CEO of M. J. Belfatti & Company, a consulting firm focused on insurance innovation and mergers and acquisitions.
He has held the position of Executive Vice President and Chief Actuary at both Endurance Holdings and Validus Holdings as well as senior roles at the Tillinghast Business of Towers Perrin and at ACE Financial Solutions.
Belfatti is a Fellow in the Casualty Actuarial Society and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries, he said; “I am excited to be joining Simon and the Greenlight Re team.”
