Reinsurance brokerage Guy Carpenter has promoted its retrocessional leader John Fletcher to become the new Chairman of the firm’s Bermuda Operations and added a new Senior Vice President hire on the island.
Fletcher has been with Guy Carpenter throughout his reinsurance broking career, having joined the firm in 1998.
In his 30 years at Guy Carpenter, Fletcher has worked his way up with a focus on the property retrocession market, operating out of London and then Bermuda.
His most recent role was as Head of Guy Carpenter’s Property Retrocessional practice in Bermuda, where he led teams helping to create innovative retro solutions for Guy Carpenter clients.
In taking on the role of Chairman Bermuda, Fletcher will be responsible for new business development, as well as overseeing the brokers Casualty, Specialty and Retrocessional teams in the region. He will report directly to Kevin Fisher, President of Global Specialties at Guy Carpenter.
The broker said that the promotion is part of the firms long-term succession-planning strategy.
Fisher commented on the promotion of Fletcher, “John’s promotion to the post of Chairman is fully deserved and is a central part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen our presence in Bermuda. Over the last five years, he has led the Property Retrocession team to great success, and as he takes the helm of our Bermuda office he will look to expand our activities, targeting new areas for growth and seeking to enhance the expansive service capabilities that the division offers.”
Additionally, Guy Carpenter has announced a new hire in its Bermuda team, as James Morris joins the broker in the role of Senior Vice President and Actuarial Analyst.
Morris, who was most recently at Aon Bermuda working as a Senior Technical Reinsurance Analyst in the firm’s Global Re Specialty division, joins Guy Carpenter’s Global Property Specialty team. He will be tasked with providing broking and analytical services to clients and markets both in Bermuda and on a global basis.
Fisher said, “I would also like to welcome James to our Bermuda team, who I am sure will make a very strong contribution to our ongoing success.”
