Hannover Life Reassurance Company of America (Hannover Re U.S) has announced that Doug Ingle, Vice President of Underwriting Research, has been elected to join the Association of Home Office Underwriters’ (AHOU) Hall of Fame.

Doug IngleAHOU is the world’s largest association of life underwriters, and elects a number of professionals to its Hall of Fame each year based on what it considers to be pioneering work in life risk underwriting and active industry contribution via research, articles, speeches, and education.

Ingle’s re/insurance industry career spans almost four decades. He joined Hannover Re in 2010, before which he held a number of senior positions at Northwestern Mutual, ING Re, and America United Life.

Among his key industry contributions is his work on preferred risk underwriting, which involved applying the techniques of the Framingham Risk Score to the debits and credits system used in life underwriting.

This culminated in Ingle co-founding a preferred risk pricing programme, authoring an Academy of Life Underwriting (ALU) chapter, and writing an article for On the Risk on the application of multivariate mathematical techniques that predated the life industry’s predictive analytics movement by almost two decades.

He has also developed a treatise on the translation of medical literature into underwriting guidelines and created a course that teaches underwriters how to read EKGs, in addition to authoring a number of articles and chapters on the conversion of mortality findings into actuarial present value dollars.

Ingle has been credited with closing the gap between medical literature, underwriting, and actuarial sciences, and his work has been published extensively in On the Risk, Journal of Insurance Medicine, Contingencies, and Best’s Review.

“We are proud of Doug’s lifetime achievement award from the AHOU,” said Kevin Oldani, Senior Vice President and Chief Underwriter. “Doug has been an industry leader with his research using alternative sources such as NHANES and other mortality data. He has unique talents that bring together the underwriting profession and analytics.”
