Ryan Barker has been appointed to the role of Chief Technology Officer of Hiscox Re & ILS, the reinsurance and insurance-linked securities arm of specialist global insurer Hiscox.
Barker who will join the firm on October 2, 2023, will be responsible for driving all aspects of the business’ technology strategy.
In the role, he will be based in London, where he will become a member of the Hiscox Re & ILS leadership team and also report to Kathleen Reardon, CEO of Hiscox Re & ILS.
He joins Hiscox Re & ILS from the Reinsurance Group of America (RGA) where in his current role as Head of Information Technology for EMEA, he has delivered major technology change programmes throughout the past several years.
Overall, Barker brings nearly two decades of information technology experience to the role.
Throughout his time at RGA, Barker has held a number of different roles, including Vice President, Enterprise Market Facing Solutions IT, VP Finance & Investment Solutions, & Project Manager, Global IT.

In their results for the first half of 2023, Hiscox Re & ILS’ net insurance contract written premium grew 17.9% to $345.1 million, which the firm said was underpinned by strong double-digit growth in the North American natural catastrophe, retrocession and marine books.
