HIVE Underwriting, the holding company of HIVE Underwriters (HIVE), a Managing General Agent (MGA), and Lloyd’s coverholder, has appointed James Lee as Non-Executive Director, effective May 19th, 2026.
The move aims to further strengthen its Board, governance, and leadership capability as the business seeks long-term growth and expands its presence as a multi-class specialty MGA.
Lee is an industry veteran with over four decades of experience in the Lloyd’s market, including more than two decades at Atrium Underwriters Ltd., where he served as Agency Managing Director and Group Chief Operations Officer.
During his tenure, he played a central role in the firm’s operational development and long-term performance, helping to build a resilient and scalable underwriting platform.
Additionally, Lee has held prominent positions within the City of London, serving as Master of the Worshipful Company of Painter-Stainers, where he continues to sit as a Court Member.
Bruce Carman, Chief Executive Officer, HIVE Underwriting, commented on the appointment, “James has spent decades at the heart of the Lloyd’s market and brings a level of experience that’s hard to replicate. He understands not just how to run an underwriting business, but how to build one that lasts.
“What stood out to me is his judgment. He’s thoughtful, pragmatic, and not afraid to challenge constructively – exactly what you want around the Board table as we continue to grow. I’m genuinely pleased he’s joining us, welcome on board.”
Lee added, “HIVE is at an exciting point in its journey, there’s a clear sense of direction, strong underwriting discipline, and a leadership team that knows what it wants to achieve. I have always believed that sustainable growth comes from getting the fundamentals right; governance, culture and consistency.
“HIVE has those building blocks in place. As it expands under the banner of knowledge-led underwriting, I very much look forward to supporting the team in maintaining their current excellent position and helping achieve their future ambitions”
