The Insurance Managers Association of Cayman (IMAC), which represents insurance managers based in the jurisdiction, has recorded continued upward momentum in Cayman’s international insurance market, as the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority’s (CIMA) third-quarter licensing statistics disclose the issuance of eight new international insurer licenses.

With the new additions, the total number of new international insurer licences issued in 2026 is 28, building on the 20 licences approved during the first half of the year.

CIMA also confirmed that there are further 11 applications currently under review, while a number of applications have been approved in principle, which includes one new insurance manager.

The total tally after adding the latest licensees means that the Cayman now houses 720 Class B, C, and D insurance companies, representing approximately USD 62 billion in premiums written, and USD 203 billion in total assets.

The statistics also disclosed that since the beginning of 2026, premiums written have increased by USD 11 billion, while total assets have grown by USD 27 billion.

James Trundle, Chair, IMAC, commented, “Cayman’s international insurance industry continues to demonstrate resilience, stability and sustained growth. The steady increase in new licensees, alongside significant growth in premiums written and total assets, reflects the continued confidence that international businesses place in our jurisdiction.

“Cayman’s established regulatory framework, depth of industry expertise and strong professional services infrastructure remain key factors in its appeal as one of the world’s leading insurance domiciles. With a healthy pipeline of applications and continued interest from international markets, we are optimistic about the industry’s outlook for the remainder of 2026.”
