IQUW bolsters Property team with three new hires

Specialty re/insurer IQUW has announced the appointment of three senior executives to its Property team, Mike Barrett, Jonathan Powell and Charles Tinworth.

IQUWThe new hires, IQUW stated, will enhance service to brokers and support the strategic growth of the business both in London and internationally.

Barrett was named Lead Underwriter for Property Direct and Facultative (D&F) and will be based in London, reporting to Robbie MacDonald, Head of Property D&F.

He brings over ten years of experience in property insurance, specialising in open market US and Canadian property risks, joining from Lockton where he served for nearly five years, most recently as Senior Vice President of P&C Specialties.

In his new role Barrett will be responsible for helping to shape and execute the Property D&F team’s strategy.

Bringing over four decades of experience in the Lloyd’s and London insurance markets to IQUW, Powell will take over the role of Senior Underwriter for Property Delegated Authority (DA).

Based in London, he will be responsible for supporting the growth and implementing the re/insurer’s strategy for the Property DA book; will report to Tom Hennessey, Head of Property DA.

Powell worked at Bishopsgate Insurance Brokers for three years as Managing Director before joining IQUW in February 2024. Before this, he was an Underwriter at Neon from 2017 to 2020 and was previously an Underwriter at Hiscox for over ten years.

Tinworth was appointed Senior Property Underwriter and brings over a decade of experience in the London and Lloyd’s property insurance markets.

He joined IQUW in January 2024 from Allianz Commercial where he was Senior Property Underwriter from 2022 to 2024. Prior to Allianz, he held the same position at AIG for nearly two years.

Based in London he will also report to MacDonald, who commented: “We are absolutely delighted to welcome people of Mike and Charles’ calibre and experience to IQUW.
