The International Underwriting Association (IUA), which represents companies in the London insurance market, has appointed Matthew Dumbrell, General Counsel for Generali’s UK branch, as Chair of the IUA’s Legal and Regulatory Committee.
This committee oversees changes in legal, regulatory, international trade, accounting, and taxation matters affecting the London Market. It coordinates IUA responses to official consultations and represents member interests to government and supervisory bodies both in the UK and internationally.
Dumbrell succeeds Laura Phillips, Head of Legal, Risk & Compliance at HDI Global Specialty, UK, as Committee Chair. He has been with Generali for two years and previously served as Regional Counsel at Swiss Re for over six years. His career also includes roles at Novae Group and LexisNexis.
Additionally, two new Deputy Chairs have been appointed: Dominic How, General Counsel at HSB Engineering Insurance, and Faye Ingham, Compliance Officer for the UK Reinsurance branch at Swiss Re.
How has nearly six years of experience at HSB and previously worked as an Associate at Clyde & Co, Assistant Vice President at Marsh, and Broker at Windsor Insurance Brokers.
Ingham joined Swiss Re in 2007 and has over a decade of experience in compliance, currently leading the Financial Crime Screening team and serves as the SMF 16 UK Reinsurance Compliance Officer.
Helen Dalziel, Director of Public Policy at IUA, commented, “Our Legal and Regulatory Committee is made up of senior legal counsel from across the market who provide expert insight and analysis of the legislative framework governing our sector.
“Their support is essential to helping the IUA pursue its mission of securing an optimal trading environment for our sector and Matthew Dumbrell is ideally positioned to lead the group. I look forward to working with him and two new Deputy Chairs.”
