Joint Hull Committee appoints AXA’s Paul Newton as Chairman

Paul Newton has been appointed as the new chairman of the London market’s Joint Hull Committee (JHC), succeeding Peter Townsend, who stepped down in June.

paul-newtonNewton has over 30 years’ experience in the marine insurance sector and has served as Head of London Marine Hull & Liability Underwriting at AXA Corporate Solutions since 2013.

The JHC comprises underwriting representatives from both the Lloyd’s Market Association (LMA) and the International Underwriting Association of London (IUA) company markets and represents the interests of those who write marine hull business in the London market.

Newton began his career as a claims broker in 1988 before moving into marine underwriting in 1991. Since 2008, his roles have extended to assessing the shape and direction of international marine hull business for companies such as Allianz, Lancashire, and AXA.

In addition to his current roles, Newton also chairs the IUA’s Marine Technical Committee and is a member of the Joint War Committee.
