Korean Reinsurance Company, South Korea’s only domestic, professional reinsurer, has partnered with MegazoneCloud, an artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud company, to accelerate AI transformation (AX) across its reinsurance business.
The two companies signed a strategic memorandum of understanding (MOU) on July 22 agreeing to combine their expertise in generative AI, big data and cloud technologies to drive operational innovation and productivity improvements in the reinsurance industry.
They will work collaboratively to identify and advance new business prospects to foster mutual growth and maximize their competitiveness in the market.
Through this agreement, the two companies will establish a long-term “Tech Companion” partnership that extends beyond one-off system implementation projects.
Their future plans include collaboration on several key initiatives:
- Using generative AI and data solutions to improve reinsurance contracting and underwriting processes
- Building risk prediction systems powered by big data analytics
- Expanding enterprise-wide business automation within a cloud-native environment, including the integration of AI-powered robotic process automation (AI RPA)
- Developing new financial business models through globally connected infrastructure
Under this partnership, MegazoneCloud will support operational innovation by integrating AI across the entirety of Korean Re’s reinsurance workflows.
Rather than limiting AI application to infrastructure management, it will be embedded directly into key insurance functions like rate setting and underwriting.
This approach is designed to optimize Korean Re’s return on investment (ROI) while generating concrete advantages, such as decreased costs and enhanced productivity.
Jae Moon Lee, CIO of Korean Re, said, “Because reinsurance requires the analysis of vast amounts of data to assess diverse risks and support complex decision-making, the ability to leverage AI will be a critical factor in determining future competitiveness.
“Through our long-term partnership with MegazoneCloud, we will continue expanding AI services that deliver tangible benefits to employees in their day-to-day work and further strengthen our digital competitiveness in the global reinsurance market.”
In addition to providing AI systems, MegazoneCloud will support change management—including enterprise governance and user training—to help Korean Re achieve organization-wide transformation and build an AX-ready corporate culture.
Korean Re views AI as a key driver to its future competitiveness in the reinsurance market. To drive innovation, it established an “AI Innovation Task Force” last year, collaborating closely with MegazoneCloud.
Their first project, the financial sector’s first “AI Assistant for Commercial Insurance Rate Calculation,” was designated an Innovative Financial Service under the Financial Services Commission’s regulatory sandbox program in March.
Additionally, Korean Re is working with MegazoneCloud to build secure AI infrastructure, implementing an “internal generative AI network” to meet strict regulatory security and network separation requirements.
Seong Bae Kong, CAIO of MegazoneCloud, said, “AX in the reinsurance sector requires the use of multiple agents to process complex variables simultaneously, making sophisticated orchestration essential.
“Drawing on our successful experience delivering demanding AX projects for major commercial banks and securities companies, MegazoneCloud will serve as an ‘AI Orchestrator’ that goes beyond infrastructure implementation to take responsibility for the integrated control of multiple AI models and secure financial networks, as well as organization-wide change management.”
