Gard, a shipowner-controlled P&I marine and energy insurer, has named Patrick Michael Leahy as Managing Director of its New York office with effect from 1 August, 2018.
He is set to replace Sandra Gluck who will be retiring.
Michael re-joined Gard in March 2016 as a Senior Claims Executive in New York, having previously worked for the group between 1997 and 2001.
Rolf Thore Roppestad, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Gard, said; “our New York office is the face of Gard in North America, with regular contact with Members and assureds as well as the shipping community at large.
“Sandra has led a real sea change in our operation there since she was appointed in 2005 and Patrick Michael will be building on her success.
“The U.S. is a significant market for us, and our ability to offer North American, and many South American, Members and assureds a full-service claims handling service locally is a key part of our proposition. Patrick Michael’s technical expertise and understanding of Gard will be invaluable in helping us to build our presence in this vital region.”
Prior to re-joining Gard Michael was a partner at Moseley, Prichard, Parrish, Knight & Jones, Gard’s listed correspondent in Jacksonville, Florida.
Michael received a Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation from The United States Merchant Marine Academy and his Juris Doctor from The University of Akron School of Law.
