Specialist insurer Markel International has announced the appointment of two marine underwriters, Danielle Yu and Nitin Marathe, to its Hong Kong and India offices, respectively.
Marathe joined Markel India on 24 February, 2020, bringing more than 20 years of experience in aviation and marine in India, specialising in marine hull and machinery, as well as ports and terminals placements.
Prior to joining Markel India, he was the vice president of Marsh India’s aviation and marine underwriting team, and he also oversaw the risk management and strategic business development in the market.
Yu, meanwhile, joined Markel in Hong Kong on 19 March 2020, bringing over 10 years of experience in all lines of marine underwriting in the Hong Kong and East Asia market, including cargo, hull and liability.
In her previous role, Yu was a senior marine underwriter at Navigators Asia, and prior to that, she was also at other Lloyd’s Syndicate platforms as a marine underwriter.
Marathe and Yu will both be responsible for developing Markel’s Asia marine underwriting expertise in the Indian and Hong Kong markets.
In this capacity, they will work closely with Colin Fordham, Director of Markel in Asia and leader of Markel’s growing marine presence in the region.
