30th March 2017 - Author: Staff Writer

The Hartford has announced Morris Tooker, former reinsurance President of Warren Buffett’s Gen Re, as new head of the firm’s Middle Market segment – which covers multiline commercial insurance for midsize and larger clientele.

The Hartford’s Middle Market segment offers property, general liability, workers’ compensation, auto, umbrella liability and marine protection, as well as specialty coverages for target industry segments, including technology, life sciences, construction, energy and multinational.

In addition to his new role, Tooker will continue to manage his current responsibilities as Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO) for Hartford’s property and casualty businesses, and he will continue to report to Doug Elliot, The Hartford President.

Elliot welcomed Tooker to his new position; “Mo is a highly-regarded risk expert who has been instrumental in enhancing The Hartford’s capabilities in product development and underwriting, including the expansion of our cyber and multinational insurance offerings.”

“In Middle Market, Mo and his leadership team will continue to focus on profitably growing the franchise through disciplined underwriting and sales execution.”

Before joining The Hartford in 2015, Tooker served as President of General Reinsurance Corporation (Gen Re), where he was responsible for the company’s global property and casualty reinsurance business.
