MS Amlin has appointed Paul Evans as senior underwriter of marine insurance.
Evans, the firm said in a statement, will begin his new role at the beginning of November and will report into Malcolm Barnes, head of marine insurance.
He joins from Tokio Marine Kiln, where he most recently held the role of Reinsurance Underwriter, working on a broad and complex treaty portfolio. Evans was also deputy chair of the Lloyd’s Market Association Property Reinsurance Panel.
Barnes said: “I am delighted to welcome Paul to MS Amlin. Marine reinsurance has been one of our core offerings for many years, and this appointment demonstrates both our ongoing commitment to the market and the positive momentum within our Reinsurance team. Paul is a deeply experienced reinsurance underwriter with strong industry relationships, and I am confident that he will add great value to the team and wider business, supporting our ambitions for profitable growth.”
Evans entrance into MS Amlin comes a few month after Barnes was himself appointed to the firm from his role at Canopius, where he was head of marine treaty. Prior to this, he was divisional director for reinsurance at Amtrust with responsibility for all inwards reinsurance business.
Barnes also spent several years as vice president at XL Re, as well as Guy Carpenter where he held a variety of business development and broking responsibilities.
There has been a host of new hires within MS Amlin in recent months. In June, the form announced that it was adding Katie Wolff to its team as its new UK country manager. And in May, the firm also appointed Julie Ferguson and Rob Margetts to new roles, Ferguson as head of open market property and Margetts to an undisclosed role within the strategy and transformation team. The firm also, in July, said it had appointed Grant Baxter to be head of reinsurance as well as deputy CUO.
