NewRe Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Munich Re, has appointed Artur Klinger as its new Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO) for the Property and Casualty (P&C) business, effective 1 September.

artur-klingerHe succeeds Jean-Luc Bourgault, who is stepping down after 17 years as the company’s CUO, and who will remain with NewRe as a Senior Consultant until he retires at the end of next year.

Klinger has already been at NewRe for ten years, having most recently served as Managing Director of Capital Partners in Zurich, where he was responsible for the Group’s global prospective reinsurance structuring teams.

From 2008 until 2015, Klinger also served NewRe as Head of Analytics, Pricing & Structuring and as Chief Underwriting Officer for Specialties.

During this time, NewRe says Klinger was instrumental in establishing the company as an important European market player for structured reinsurance.

“I am delighted that we have not only secured a successor whose business acumen is impressive but also brings along deep knowledge of the NewRe portfolio and the core markets and products we focus on,” said Renate Strasser, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NewRe.

Klinger also commented: “I am very pleased to be taking on profit responsibility for a significant reinsurance player. I am looking forward to bringing my analytical and global business development experience to the table to shape NewRe’s future P&C portfolio.”

NewRe added that the appointment reflects its strategy of intense collaboration with brokers on standard P&C reinsurance and reinforces its transaction capabilities to develop customised reinsurance solutions.
