Forecasters have predicted that the flooding in Paris is going to worse, with authorities predicting that the river Seine will reach more than 20ft by Saturday, which according to reports is 16ft above its normal height.
Flooding in Paris reached this level in June 2016, which was estimated to have cost between €1.5 billion and €2 billion, by the French Insurance Association.
With rainfall levels expected to drive the flood waters to reach similar heights by this coming Saturday, some insurers and reinsurers will likely be watching the flooding in Paris carefully over the next few days.
Rainfall in Paris has been twice as high as normal, with the Seine river reaching almost 18ft by this morning, making it the third wettest on record since data began in 1900, according to Meteo France.
